PLEASANT HILL — CALIFORNIA58 LOCAL. Pleasant Hill Police Department is encouraging residents to participate in Neighborhood Watch, a community crime-prevention program that the department has supported since the 1970s. An updated municipal notice in September 2026 invites neighbors to join an existing group or start one on their street.
What residents should know
Participants share information, learn about safety measures and report suspicious activity through appropriate channels. The aim is to strengthen local relationships and improve communication between residents and law enforcement.
Neighborhood Watch is voluntary and does not authorize residents to patrol as police officers, confront suspected offenders, or collect private information about neighbors. Emergencies still belong with 911, while ordinary concerns should use the police department’s published non-emergency procedures.
People interested in participation can contact volunteer coordinator Vangie Jordan at Nwatch@pleasanthillpd.org. The program is an ongoing service, not an announcement that a particular crime has occurred in one neighborhood.
Community safety efforts should be judged by participation, transparency and actual outcomes rather than assuming that a new watch group automatically reduces crime.
Primary source: Official municipal record or announcement. Always confirm changing hours, availability and active traffic controls with the issuing agency.
